Committed to Funambules theater in 1826, he renouvella the Pierrot character and assured the success of the theater. He began his career as the Baptist; its placidity in the role of Pierrot came the phrase "Quiet as a Baptist." His son, Charles (1829-1873), succeeded in taking the character of Pierrot.
